WATCH: Holger Rune gets booed by the crowd as he took retirement because he was losing his match against Borna Coric

Holger Rune faced boos from the crowd as he retired from his match against Borna Coric while trailing.

Holger Rune's run in Montpellier came to an abrupt end as he was forced to retire from his semifinal clash against Borna Coric on Saturday, February 3. Trailing by a set (6-3, 4-1*), Rune cited issues with his right arm as the reason for his withdrawal. Disheartened spectators voiced their discontent with resounding boos as Rune approached the net to concede the match to Coric.

Tennis TV later shared a video capturing the closing stages, featuring the audible disappointment expressed by the crowd.

Holger Rune, grappling with discomfort in his right arm, encountered challenges maintaining his serve throughout the match. His first serve percentage remained notably low, with only about half of his attempts finding the mark. Additionally, he struggled to capitalize on his first serve, winning just around 50% of the points behind that shot, despite it being a formidable weapon in his arsenal.

In contrast, Borna Coric showcased relentless attacking prowess on the court. The Croatian managed to create a significant 10 breakpoint opportunities during the truncated match, successfully converting four of them into crucial points. This victory propelled him into the Open Sud de France final, where he is poised to challenge Alexander Bublik for the coveted trophy.

In the other Montpellier semifinal, Alexander Bublik staged a remarkable three-set comeback against Felix Auger Aliassime. Despite dropping the first set 4-6, Bublik rallied back in the subsequent two sets, ultimately clinching a hard-fought victory after a grueling battle lasting two hours and 37 minutes.
